From the pop-up, click on the Confirm button. Scroll down and under the System Folder Library section, check the option for Upload Photos and videos to Google Photos. Now, click on the Gear icon and select Preferences. Initially when Google Photos backs up your photos they still remain on your device until you tell it to clear it out. Click on the Google Drive icon next to the Control Center. I suggested the computer because the normal use case for Google Photos on a phone would be to backup the pictures on it and once they are, delete them from the phone and access them from there if need be thereby freeing up the space on your phone for whatever else. Manually back up photos & videos On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app Photos. On the left, you'll find a way to navigate through and do more with your photos. Learn more about backing up photos and videos. Or use Google Takeout, though I personally don’t have much experience with that tool, I’d imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to manage. When you open Google Photos, you'll find all the photos and videos backed up to your Google Account. If it doesn’t matter to you whether they are there or not, I’d suggest removing the pictures via a computer and going to and delete/transfer from there as it syncs to the Google Photos app on your phone. Go to the Settings tab, under the Upload size, select your upload size. Then, click Save to backup photos between Google Photos and hard drive. How Google Photos works with Google Drive for. Click Add Folder > Back up to Google Photos and select any folder you want to backup from local to Google cloud. Add a tick mark next to Back up to Google Photos. It may not entirely solve your problem but it could help make it easier at least. Select the folder that you want to back up to Google Photos. You could try, assuming it wasn’t already, switching to the storage saver option in Google Photos settings.
